Alcon Air Optix® Plus HydraGlyde® Multifocal 6 Pack is Alcon's monthly multifocal contact lens for presbyopia — available at contactlens365.com. Built on Lotrafilcon B silicone hydrogel (Dk/t 138) with SMARTSHIELD® Technology for deposit resistance and HydraGlyde® Moisture Matrix for surface lubrication, it adds the Precision Profile® Design multifocal architecture — a proprietary optical system that provides smooth transitions between distance, intermediate, and near vision zones for each individual ADD level prescription.
The Precision Profile® Design represents Alcon's answer to the clinical challenge of consistent multifocal performance across the ADD range. The design uses a centre-near geometry where the central optical zone is optimised for near and intermediate vision and the peripheral zone provides distance correction, with the transition zones between them designed to minimise optical aberrations that can reduce visual quality in bright light or low-contrast environments. Critically, the Precision Profile® Design varies its zone geometry across the three ADD levels — Low, Medium, and High — rather than applying a fixed optical layout uniformly. This prescription-specific approach is associated with better initial adaptation, higher visual quality scores at intermediate distance, and lower halos and ghost images in real-world wearing conditions.
HydraGlyde® Moisture Matrix is a surface wetting agent incorporated into the Lotrafilcon B material during manufacturing. Unlike topical wetting agents applied externally, HydraGlyde® provides sustained surface lubrication throughout the full monthly replacement cycle — maintaining lens surface wettability from day 1 to day 30 without the performance decline associated with external coatings. SMARTSHIELD® Technology provides protection against lipid and protein deposits that accumulate on silicone hydrogel surfaces — keeping the optical surface cleaner for longer and reducing the deposit-related discomfort that can compromise monthly multifocal performance in the second half of the wearing month.
